Here is a short explanation of what happens when you visit this site or subscribe to my emails.

Visitor statistics

I use GoatCounter to understand which pages people read and how they find the site. Its visitor analytics uses no cookies or browser storage. It processes information such as page addresses, referring sites, and browser details.

To recognise repeat visits, GoatCounter temporarily keeps the site name, IP address, and full browser identification header (User-Agent) in server memory for up to eight hours. The IP address and full header are not stored in its database. See GoatCounter’s privacy policy for how it handles this information.

Email subscriptions

If you submit the subscription form, your email address goes to Kit, which manages confirmations and sends my updates. Kit may also process technical information to provide the service. You can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter email.

Kit describes subscriber data handling in its Data Processing Addendum, and its own website and service practices in its privacy policy.

Interactive maps

Opening an interactive map loads map images from OpenStreetMap. The provider receives connection information, including your IP address, as described in the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s privacy policy.

Preferences in your browser

This site uses local storage to remember appearance, reading font, and text size choices. It also uses session storage to help you return to the page you came from. These are browser storage features, separate from GoatCounter’s analytics. You can remove them by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

Hosting

GitHub Pages hosts this site. GitHub may process connection information, including IP addresses, as described in its privacy statement.
